The Queen of Disco has lost her battle with lung cancer. Donna Summer passed away Thursday morning at the age of 63.
Summer's family confirmed her death and issued a statement to the AP, saying they "are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time."
Summer's music defined the disco era of the 1970's. Her first hit "Love to Love You Baby" was too sexy for radio but became popular in the discoteques. You can read more about her long career and battle with addiction and depression in People.
TMZ quotes sources who said Donna was trying to keep the severity of her lung cancer under wraps and was even working on another album leading up to her death.
I think we should all listen to a little Donna Summer today.
