Bono began to value his old friends as his fame grew, says his wife.

The U2 frontman has been married to Alison Hewson for 30 years, with the pair meeting before the band was even together. Alison is proud of how little success has changed her husband.

"Nearly all our friends come from school, the whole band went to secondary school together. I think maybe, as fame happened and the band became bigger, it was more important to hold onto friends who really liked you and really knew you," she explained to Amuse magazine.

Bono and Alison have four children together, Jordan, 23, Eve, 21, Eli, 12, and 11-year-old John.

Family life has always been at the fore for the couple, who can't rest if one of their kids is unhappy.

"I try to make sure everyone is going to the right place, so it's busy, but it works. But the most important thing for us has always been the kids," she said.

"If they aren't completely secure, then nothing else is going well."
