Sam Claflin will officially portray character Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

The British actor, who has appeared in Snow White and the Huntsman, is now a confirmed castmember on the upcoming sci-fi fantasy sequel based on Suzanne Collins' novels.

In Catching Fire, past Hunger Games champions are called upon to battle each other to the death in another challenging event the Quarter Quell. Plutarch is the Head Gamemaker of the brutal televised games.

Finnick is a new character who will compete against Jennifer Lawrence's persona Katniss. Sam's role is speculated to be fairly large and important in the feature.

Several other actors have been recently added to the cast. New faces include Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jena Malone, Tony Shalhoub, Amanda Plummer, Lynn Cohen, Bruno Gunn, Alan Ritchson, E. Roger Mitchell, and Meta Golding.

Jennifer, Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson will reprise their original roles.

Sam Claflin is currently filming director John Pogue's horror The Quiet Ones.

Catching Fire is scheduled to begin shooting this fall and has a release date of November 2013.
