Melissa McCarthy is convinced malls “discriminate” against heavyset shoppers.
The 44-year-old Bridesmaids actress is currently promoting her new fashion label Melissa McCarthy Seven7, an 80-piece line for women ranging from sizes 4 to 28.
She designed each item of clothing with all body types in mind because the star has compassion for people who can’t find anything that fits them in their favorite store.
“[Malls] segregate plus-size,” she told More magazine. “It’s an odd thing that you can’t go shopping with your friends because your store is upstairs hidden by the tire section. We’ll put you gals over there because we don’t want to see you and you probably don’t want to be seen.”
Melissa’s brand Seven7 is inspired by several of the comedienne’s philosophical viewpoints on how fashion impacts society.
The Spy star hopes to disrupt several stereotypes with her clothes.
“There is just this weird thing about how we perceive women in this country. I would love to be a part of breaking that down,” she noted.
“People don’t stop at size 12. I feel like there’s a big thing missing where you can’t dress to your mood above a certain number.”
Melissa shares daughters Vivian, seven, and Georgette, five, with her husband Ben Falcone.
And now that the movie star has added fashion designer to her list of talents, she hopes the new pursuit inspires her little girls to accomplish whatever they please in their future careers.
“When I told my daughters there had never been a female president, they were like, ‘What! How is that possible?’ I have an overactive sense of justice,” Melissa said.
“I want women to realize you don’t have to work for the company. You can run the company. I want the scope for them to be endless.”
The funnywoman’s fashion label Seven7 launches in August.
