Abigail Breslin found it “stressful” walking in heels while wearing a dress with a long train at the Cannes Film Festival last week.
The actress impressed fashion critics when she appeared on the red carpet alongside Matt Damon for the world premiere of Stillwater in a strapless figure-hugging emerald Dolce & Gabbana column gown with towering heels. While she appeared to be the epitome of elegance, Abigail was terrified she might trip and make a fool of herself.
“I felt confident because I thought it was a stunning dress, but I was definitely not confident that I wouldn’t fall down because I am not the most graceful human being,” she told WWD. “So walking in those shoes, going up the stairs and having a train – it was a little bit stressful.”
The 25-year-old actress’ sense of style has blossomed since she first shot to fame as a child star in the 2006 film Little Miss Sunshine, and while Abigail realises how important it is to look great at red carpet events, she has also learned not to get too hung up over negative comments.
“There’s definitely a lot of stress when I go to a big red carpet – what if people hate what I’m wearing or hate what I look like or my hair is not in the right place? But you have to remember that there are more important things going on in the world and the attention span is so short,” she said. “In the end, you have to just go with what you feel in the moment. I learned that there’s no way I can survive in this industry without getting a thick skin and not paying attention to all of that.”
