Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have resolved a tense two-year child custody feud over their six kids.
The Maleficent star’s attorney, Samantha Bley DeJea, has announced that disputes between the former couple over the care of the children have now been resolved.
“A custody arrangement was agreed to weeks ago, and has been signed by both parties and the judge,” the lawyer tells Reuters in a statement on Friday (30Nov18). “The agreement, which is based on the recommendations of the child custody evaluator, eliminates the need for a trial. The filing and details of the agreement are confidential to protect the best interests of the children.”
The pair was slated to appear in court for a hearing on 4 December (18), ahead of a final agreement.
Jolie’s spokesperson has also declined to provide details on how parental custody will be split between the actress and her ex, while Pitt’s representatives have offered no immediate comment.
Brad and Angelina, who ended their 12-year relationship by separating after two years of marriage in 2016, are parents to Maddox, 17, Pax, 15, Zahara, 13, Shiloh, 12, and 10-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
The movie stars have been engaged in tense negotiations over custody arrangements for their kids since the break-up. Angelina asked for full physical custody when she filed for divorce and Brad responded by entering a petition for joint legal and physical custody.
In August, Jolie filed court papers accusing Pitt of providing no “meaningful” child support for the children, prompting the Ocean’s Eleven star to reveal he loaned her $8 million to buy a house for the kids, as well as at least $1.3 million to cover their expenses.
Meanwhile, Jolie filed a request in Los Angeles on Wednesday (28Nov18) to extend the appointment of Judge John Ouderkirk to 31 December, 2019 as a temporary overseer of the case, adding six months to the previous 30 June (19) end date. This suggests divorce talks will continue well into next year. Judge Ouderkirk also officiated Brad and Angelina’s August, 2014 wedding on their French estate.
