Angelina Jolie, feared a naked bathtub scene in her new movie following her 2013 double mastectomy.
The 40 year old actress, who directs and stars in By the Sea alongside husband Brad Pitt, underwent the preventative procedure after learning she had an 87 per cent chance of developing breast cancer due to a defective BRCA1 gene.
Angelina has openly discussed the procedure and her subsequent surgery to reduce her risk of ovarian cancer earlier this year (15), but when it came to a scene in her new movie By the Sea, she was struck by fear.
“There were lots of scenes I wanted to change or cut,” she told the New York Times. “I realized it was going to be me (naked) in that bathtub. But I told myself, ‘Put all of that aside… You can’t change or cut this scene because you’ve had a mastectomy, or because we’re married and people are going to analyze this or that. That would be cheating.”
In the film Angelina and Brad portray a vacationing couple trying to save their marriage. The actors made the movie while on honeymoon in Malta after tying the knot in France in August 2014. Jolie hopes fans don’t think the film in any way mirrors the couple’s union, which she insists was less of a big deal than her decision to sign joint adoption papers with Pitt.
“For me, the big moment was when (we) signed the papers for Maddox and Zahara,” she explained. “That was a decision to parent together, to commit to being a part of each other’s lives for the rest of my life. So (marriage) wasn’t close in comparison. In a way, it was very casual.”
As well as Maddox, 14, who is from Cambodia, and Zahara, 10, who originates from Ethiopia, the couple has also adopted son Pax, 11, from Vietnam. They also share biological children Shiloh, nine, and seven year old twins Vivienne and Knox.
