Billie Eilish: ‘I still have huge issues with my body’

Billie Eilish has opened up about her body confidence struggles.

The 18-year-old discussed her issues surrounding body image in a new interview with British GQ magazine and opened up about her battle to accept herself after a tumultuous few years.

“I still have huge issues with my own body,” the Bad Guy hitmaker explained. “Here’s a bomb for you: I have never felt desired. My past boyfriends never made me feel desired. None of them. And it’s a big thing in my life that I feel I have never been physically desired by somebody.”

She went on to reveal that while she prefers to dress in androgynous, baggy clothes, she now feels “trapped” by the persona she created in an effort to avoid being sexualised.

“Sometimes I dress like a boy. Sometimes I dress like a swaggy girl. And sometimes I feel trapped by this persona that I have created, because sometimes I think people view me not as a woman,” Billie shared.

The Grammy winner also discussed the video she created for her tour earlier this year, in which she can be seen stripping off layers of clothing to show off her body for the first time, along with a powerful voiceover in which she addresses body shaming.

“I felt very motivated to do it… First off, I am not stripping. The whole point is that I don’t strip all the way to my bra as it’s gone before you see it – it’s not yours to see… I definitely didn’t want it to come off as, ‘Oh, now I am 18 now I like my body,'” she explained.

“It is me saying: ‘Look, there is a body underneath these clothes and you don’t get to see it. Isn’t that a shame? But my body is mine and yours is yours.’ Our own bodies are kind of the only real things which are truly ours. I get to see it and get to show it when I want to.”
