Bobby Brown has denied he ever became violent with his ex-wife Whitney Houston.
The New Edition star was arrested in 2003 for misdemeanor battery after allegedly striking the late singer in her face, but the couple reconciled and Houston, who appeared to have been bruised in the reported incident, ended up accompanying Brown to a subsequent court appearance.
The 49-year-old’s representative also issued a statement at the time, insisting he was “very apologetic about what happened and hopes his wife forgives him”.
However, when Bobby was asked about the old domestic violence reports on Friday (27Jul18), he angrily denied them, and insisted public records about the domestic dispute were inaccurate.
“The public record is wrong,” he declared at a Television Critics Association (TCA) summer press event promoting The Bobby Brown Story miniseries.
Bobby also used the appearance to reflect on his past reputation as a bad boy, insisting it is all a misconception.
“I think the bad boy image came from me being on stage, not from me being a human being,” he said. “You see me in person, meet me somewhere, you won’t call me a bad guy. You’ll call me Bobby.”
And he revealed he has no regrets when he looks back on his life.
“If you have regrets in your life you can’t grow,” he added. “I have no regrets.”
Bobby’s comments about his checkered history come days after he revealed he will honor his late daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown by building a domestic violence shelter in her name in Atlanta, Georgia.
Bobbi Kristina, the singer’s only child with Houston, died in July, 2015, six months after she was found unconscious in a bathtub at the Alpharetta, Georgia home she shared with her boyfriend, Nick Gordon.
Coroners ruled the 22-year-old died from a combination of drugs and drowning, but in a wrongful death lawsuit filed against Gordon after the tragedy, Bobbi Kristina’s father teamed up with her court-appointed estate executor and accused him of abusing the aspiring actress prior to her passing, claiming he had given her a “toxic cocktail” of substances, which made her lose consciousness as she bathed.
Gordon has always maintained his innocence, but in 2016, he was found civilly liable for Bobbi Kristina’s death, and was ordered to hand over $36 million in damages.
