Britney Spears did not agree to TV biopic

A representative for Britney Spears insists the star did not give her blessing for a forthcoming TV biopic.

Bosses at the Lifetime network announced on Wednesday they are developing Britney Jean, a biopic focusing on the “tumultuous true story” of the pop star’s rise to fame, fall, and her subsequent triumphant return.

However, the film won’t have the approval of the star herself, after her representative released a statement on Thursday denouncing the project.

“Britney Spears will not be contributing in any way, shape or form to the Lifetime biopic,” a statement reads, “nor does it have her blessing.”

Despite her disapproval, producers are still forging on with the film, which will star Australian actress Natasha Bassett as the Toxic singer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will follow Britney’s humble beginnings in Kentwood, Louisiana, her success as a child star, and her personal struggles following her parents’ divorce.

Her highly publicized love life, including relationships with Justin Timberlake and ex-husbands Jason Alexander and Kevin Federline, will also feature.

Britney Jean, which is slated to premiere in 2017, is the latest celebrity biopic on Lifetime’s slate. TV movies about the lives of late stars Whitney Houston and Aaliyah have aired in recent years, while behind-the-scenes drama from hit TV shows Saved by the Bell and Beverly Hills, 90210 have been recreated for the small screen.

Meanwhile, Britney has been on a whirlwind press tour to promote her ninth studio album Glory, which will be released on Friday.

On Sunday, she’ll make her first performance at the MTV Video Music Awards in almost 10 years. This time around, the 34-year-old is set to give a performance of her new single Make Me.
