Transgender former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner has unexpectedly cancelled her upcoming speaking tour due to scheduling conflicts.
Kim Kardashian’s stepfather was slated to kick off a five-city tour on 22 February (16), but on Thursday (07Jan16), her representative told Entertainment Tonight the entire tour has been scrapped, “due to conflict with another work commitment.”
Jenner’s trek was in partnership with women’s lecture organization Unique Lives and Experiences, with the star scheduled to make stops in Toronto and Vancouver, Canada, Denver, Colorado, San Francisco, California and Seattle, Washington.
Last month (Dec15), Jenner apologized after upsetting members of the transgender community with comments she made during a recent TIME magazine interview.
The 66-year-old featured in the publication’s Person of the Year shortlist, and, in an accompanying article, the former Olympian discussed the image of those seeking sex changes, suggesting people feel “uncomfortable” if a trans person looks like “a man in a dress”.
“There are a lot of ways of being trans, and I want to help create a world in which people are able to express their gender in any way that is true and authentic for them,” she wrote on her WhoSay account. “And most importantly, a world in which how a trans person is treated isn’t dependent on how they look.
“I am guessing this is probably not the last time I will say the wrong thing, or say something the wrong way. I promise to keep learning, and to try to be more articulate in the future.”
