Charlie Sheen has never missed HIV medication

Charlie Sheen swears he hasn’t missed a single dose of medication since being diagnosed with HIV.

The actor revealed on Tuesday (17Nov15) that he is suffering from the disease, following weeks of speculation. His physician Dr. Robert Huizenga joined him on the Today show to speak to host Matt Lauer about the condition.

While Charlie admits to having had unprotected sex with two people, he insists they knew about his diagnosis beforehand. Dr. Huizenga added that people who take their medication regularly have an “incredibly low risk” of passing HIV on to their sexual partners.

Taking four pills a day, Charlie insists he hasn’t missed a single one. While he claims to have ditched drugs, he does drink occasionally, which puts the doctor’s guard up a little.

“We’re petrified about Charlie,” he candidly admitted. “We’re so anxious that if he was overly depressed or abusing substances, he would forget those pills. But magically, in this mayhem, he has managed to remember.”

Many commented Charlie, 50, should ban alcohol from his life completely, which the actor now says is a possibility. “The freedom of today might lead to that as well,” he reasoned.

Charlie blames the “shame and anger” he felt when initially diagnosed for falling into a life of substance abuse. However, he now wants to get a handle on things in a bid to help others.

“(I feel) the responsibility to better myself and help a lot of other people. With what we’re doing today, others may come up and say, ‘Thanks Charlie, thanks for kicking the door open,'” he explained.

Stars have already started to respond to Charlie’s confession, with British TV personality Piers Morgan leading the way: “Bravo @charliesheen – that took guts today. Proud to be your mate.” he posted on Twitter.
