The French footwear designer is no stranger to collaboration, having previously teamed with Disney to create a modern-day Cinderella-inspired pair of slippers in 2012 and a range of vibrant shoe styles with Indian couturier Sabyasachi Mukherjee this year (17).
To celebrate the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Louboutin has once again teamed with Disney on a set of special shoes, to be launched at the Los Angeles premiere on Saturday (09Dec17).
“(Disney and Star Wars) are very, very strong at developing characters,” Louboutin said of the limited-edition line, according to WWD. “I have the same thing when I’m designing shoes. I often think of a character, so in a way for me, it totally makes sense to work around the character because that’s basically what I do.”
Taking inspiration from the key characters and their costumes, the Rey design was influenced by Daisy Ridley’s Rey, and features a clear PVC, brown leather ankle tie strap and embellished stiletto heel. Gwendoline Christie’s Captain Phasma inspired a pointed silver shoe with sculptural heel, the attire worn by Laura Dern’s Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo is reflected in an aubergine-coloured pleated satin high heel with sparkly brooch attached, while Kelly Marie Tran’s Rose Tico character gets a high platform in dark red with dramatic gold satin ankle tie.
Doug Chiang, vice president and executive creative director for the Star Wars franchise was very impressed by the final result.
“The designs I create for films are meant to be experienced cinematically, while Christian’s have an intimate tangible relationship with their wearers. With this collaboration, he has masterfully infused Star Wars into his magnificent, one-of-a-kind creations,” he said.
The shoes will be auctioned, with proceeds benefitting the Starlight Children’s Foundation, from 7-20 December.
