Someone get Jessica Fletcher on the case!
TMZ EXCLUSIVELY reported on July 23rd that Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi’s Monecito, CA mansion was burglarized on the 4th of July. Some of the goods taken from Ellen’s home included watches and “high-valued jewelry.” At the time of TMZ’s article, their sources said Ellen and Portia’s home was “targeted due to the victim’s celebrity status.” No mention of motive outside of they are rich and well-known. OK, sure, nothing to look at here. Except what do we remember about “exclusive” stories in tabloids? Exclusive means that the call is coming from inside the house, so to speak. Meaning, it’s safe to assume that Ellen’s people had something to do with TMZ getting details about the ordeal. The read being: Let’s feel sad for Ellen during her professional drama.
Well, the plot thickens!

According to sources at The Sun, this crime could have hit closer to home than previously thought! The Sun got their hands on the Montecito Association newsletter (imagine being on that mailing list) and the newsletter says that their sources at the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s office tell residents not to worry because authorities believe the burglary to be an “inside job.”
But who would be able to pull off such an inside job?
Our friend Enty Lawyer, who writes the celebrity gossip mysteries we use for our Blinded by the Item game has an idea: “It looks like some of those disgruntled employees of the daytime talk show host got together and robbed her.”
OHHHHHH! If you are to believe the gossip, not only was it an inside job, but the burglary could have very well been an act of revenge, too.
Listen to Colleen and Bradley discuss the theories on who is behind the burglary of Ellen and Portia’s mansion here:
UPDATE: According to ET Canada, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s office says reports of the burglary being an “inside job” are “incorrect.”
