Why I couldn’t stop watching Britney Ever After

Britney Ever After aired on Saturday night on Lifetime, and it was exactly what you would expect from a Lifetime movie about Britney Spears.

It was cheesy, the acting was bad and the writing worse. The only thing that kept you watching, and I somehow stomached the whole thing, was the fact that it’s about Britney Spears.

The movie started with Britney’s early career and her release of Hit Me Baby One More Time. You knew it was going to be bad when the movie clearly didn’t have any rights to     her music, the lead (Natasha Bassett) looked nothing like Britney, and every portrayal was laughably over the top.

Still… I kept watching, and I found the untimely termination of Brit’s relationship with Timberlake and the ultimate conflict with her parents and Sam Lufti to be the most illuminating parts of the story.

We’ll never know exactly what happened to Britney Spears between the height of her fame and the depth of her despair, and for that reason, one still finds themselves searching for clues to the mystery in even the most desperate of places, aka at home alone watching Lifetime on a Saturday night.

If it proves anything, it’s that no matter what it is, whether a bad Lifetime movie, a completely lip synced performance or a mediocre Vegas show, we still want it if it’s Britney, bitch.

What did you think of Britney Ever After? Let us know and we’ll discuss on Monday on myTalk 107.1.
