Denise Richards has hit back at criticism of her “short and sexy” wedding dress, insisting it was “appropriate” for the Malibu nuptials.

The new star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills tied the knot with Aaron Phypers in a surprise ceremony in Malibu, California on 8 September (18), just days after the couple announced they had got engaged.
For the occasion, Denise chose a strapless, floral print Mark Zunino dress with a sheer train and high-low hemline – which divided opinion among her fans.
However, the 47-year-old actress told USA Today that she felt the gown was the perfect choice for the beachside wedding.
“It’s a sexy dress, and it’s fun,” she smiled. “I thought it was appropriate because we got married in Malibu overlooking the ocean. I’m a beachy girl. I like that it was short and it wasn’t a gown.”
Denise added that because it wasn’t her first trip down the aisle – she was married to Charlie Sheen from 2002 to 2006 – she wanted to steer clear of the “traditional” bridal gown for her big day.
“I didn’t want a big traditional wedding dress,” she said. “It’s my second wedding and I have kids. I did the traditional dress at my first wedding. (The wedding) was so much fun. It was small and intimate and very special.”
Designer Zunino previously revealed that he had just 24 hours to come up with the dress Denise wore to become Mrs. Phypers. And taking to Instagram, he also hit back at those criticising the creation.
“I don’t think we’ve ever had a wedding dress create more split opinions than the dress we just did for Denise Richards!” he wrote. “Here’s our thought: we work for the bride/client. As long as they’re in love with the design, we feel we’ve done our job. Unless you’ve paid for it or are the one wearing it you don’t have to worry about it! We are thrilled that Denise felt beautiful on her special day and love how the dress 100 per cent fit her personality and the setting. We look forward to working with any of you and creating the dress of your dreams no matter what anyone else thinks! XOXO.”
