Emily Blunt’s boozy karaoke nights

Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt would never do karaoke without drinking a “tonne of margaritas”.

The British actress may not be confident enough to sing sober while on a night out, but that didn’t stop her taking on a tuneful role in new musical flick Into the Woods.

However when she’s out with friends, she prefers to knock back a few cocktails before taking the mic.

“Oh yeah. I would never go into [karaoke bar] Sing Sing in New York without a tonne of margaritas,” Emily laughed to British magazine Stylist.

“I love Janis Joplin. Sometimes, if I’m coerced, I’ll do Aerosmith’s I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing. And I love Try A Little Tenderness by Otis Redding, but that’s usually later on in the night.”

Emily and husband John Krasinski welcomed their first child, daughter Hazel, into the world last February.

The 31-year-old loves her new-found mummy duties, but still manages to find time for fun with her friends. While she may like a night on the tiles, Emily has found her hangovers get worse with age.

“It hits you harder. You think drink is your friend then at the end of the night it punches you in the face. And you’re like, ‘You never usually punch me in the face,’” she smiled.

Into the Woods boasts an all-star cast including Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick and James Corden.

It’s based on the Broadway show of the same name, and skews the typical idea of a fairytale with no happily ever after achieved in the flick.

“We all decided to embrace the darkness and the joyous qualities and to understand that people would go with you on that journey. The film is such a comment on life. Life can turn on a dime – no-one goes through life unscathed.

“When Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine wrote this, their intention wasn’t to make you happy. It wasn’t to make you unhappy but it wants to keep you on edge. So often, movies are just trying to make you happy and give you what you want,” she explained.
