Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield have reportedly split for good but “remain close.”
The Amazing Spider-Man co-stars started dating in 2011 but in April (15) it was reported they had taken a break. It seemed they had patched things up when they were spotted together again in August (15). However multiple sources now claim they have drawn a line under things and vowed to stay purely platonic.
“They still have a lot of love for one another and they are on good terms with each another and remain close,” an insider told Us Weekly. “It just wasn’t working.”
People magazine also reported on the split, saying it actually happened a few months ago but without any “drama”. Asked about reports of their break-up earlier this year (15), Emma told the Wall Street Journal, “I never talk about this stuff for this exact reason – because it’s all so speculative and baseless.
“I understand the interest in it completely, because I’ve had it, too. But it’s so special to me that it never feels good to talk about, so I just continually don’t talk about it.”
For a while it seemed the couple would be able to work through their differences, with sources even claiming they wanted to start a family together. In Andrew’s latest film 99 Homes he plays a single dad, which got the star thinking about fatherhood.
“I’ve always had them somewhere,” he told ET. “I think all men do and all women have that motherly instinct, and it was exciting to explore that and daunting and scary. I kind of thought, ‘Well, how do I do that? If I haven’t experienced it, can I do it?’ but then I realized that’s the situation of every single father in the history of time.”
