Fantastic Beasts opens today; we ranked the 8 Harry Potter movies. You agree?

It’s a very exciting day! Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens. I LOVED LOVED LOVED it!!!!! Jason didn’t. He “lowercased liked it.”

We’re hoping you see it this weekend and let us know what you think on Monday. Be our tiebreaker!

In the spirit of the New York wizarding world J.K. Rowling introduces us to in Fantastic Beasts, we thought it would be fun to travel back to Hogwarts and rank the 8 Harry Potter films. USA Today released its “definitive ranking” and reasoning.

In short, here’s its list from least to most favorite.

8. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2nd movie, 2002)

7. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (1st movie, 2001)

6. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (6th movie, 2009)

5. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (4th movie, 2005)

4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (7th movie, 2010)

3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (8th movie, 2011)

2. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (3rd movie, 2004)

1. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (5th movie, 2007)

Do we/you agree?

The first film has always been my favorite — not for its amazing CGI effects (laughable now), but for the nostalgia. I remember how excited I was to see it with my brother. He introduced me to Harry Potter.  Now when it comes to the movies — the director’s style, the chemistry between the characters and the visuals, I agree with USA Today’s list.

The 5th movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, was Director David Yate’s first installment and number one on this list.  Even though it’s one of the darker stories, it’s fun in plot and style with Professor Umbridge’s torments and Harry Potter’s rants. And it’s no wonder Yates continued directing through the rest of the 8 movies and now Fantastic Beasts.

Jason was surprised Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was ranked 6th; it’s one of his favorite Harry Potter movies and would have been higher on his list….even though the chemistry between Harry and Hermoine was wah wah (if you ask me :)).

It was fun to travel back and remember the magic that is Harry Potter.

We hope “see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is on your weekend list.

Excited to see what you think on Monday!

Happy Friday!
