Goldie Hawn got “right in there” while daughter Kate Hudson was in labor with baby Rani Rose.
The Hollywood mother-daughter duo were the guest hosts for Thursday’s (17Jan19) episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and recalled how the veteran actress got so involved while Kate was preparing to welcome her daughter in October (18) that the doctor had to say something.
“As you might know, we had my daughter… which is kind of how it goes down in the birthing room, anyway,” Kate joked. “The doctor was amazing. But mom, once again – she was right in there!”
“(The doctor) was sort of like this, leaning down, doing the thing…and I’m trying to get in on him to try to look over his shoulder,” Goldie added. “Now I see the head and I’m going, ‘Oh! There’s the head!’ Then it went back, and he said, ‘Goldie, if you get any closer, you’re going to fall in!'”
The 73-year-old explained that she had to seek permission from Kate to be in the delivery room for Rani’s birth because she annoyed her daughter when she delivered son Bingham in 2011 by talking and eating Doritos and pizza.
The Almost Famous actress had planned to have a natural birth but ended up getting an epidural because the room was so busy.
“I was induced, trying to do it naturally, and then everybody would be in the room and I’d have those crazy contractions where I’d be talking and then all of a sudden I’d go, ‘Ooh.’ I’d have to hunker down,” she recalled.
“Because there were so many people in and out – and I was feeling left out of the social aspect of it – I looked at the nurse and I was like, ‘I think I want the epidural, because I’m too social for natural childbirth.’ I ended up getting a walking epidural, and then during the actual pushing, it was (quick).”
Kate and boyfriend Danny Fujikawa welcomed little Rani to the world on 2 October. She is also mother to Ryder, 15, from her marriage to ex-husband Chris Robinson, and seven-year-old son Bingham from her relationship with former fiance Matt Bellamy.
