Gwyneth Paltrow is in disbelief at the scary similarities between Contagion and the current Covid-19 global pandemic.

The Oscar-winning actress starred in Steven Soderbergh’s 2011 thriller, which followed the devastating effects of a deadly virus that began in Hong Kong and spread throughout the world, causing millions of deaths until a vaccine was found.

In the flick, Paltrow played Beth Emhoff, who is responsible for the initial spread of the virus after catching it from infected meat during a business trip, and subsequently passes it on to the rest of her family.

During an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the 48-year-old was quizzed on how she feels about the current global health crisis, which began in Wuhan, China, having similarities to the hit movie.

“Oh my gosh, can you believe it? It’s just nuts,” she exclaimed, before noting that the film’s writer Scott Z. Burns predicted that a pandemic would happen in the near future.

“You know, it’s funny, when we were making the movie, when we were on the set, I remember the producer and writer saying, ‘No, this is gonna happen,’ because the writer had been researching these kind of viruses, and he’s like, ‘We’re due for one, it’s gonna happen in our lifetime’,” Gwyneth explained.

“And I just thought, ‘I can’t even think about that, it’s just way too scary to even fathom,’ and I can’t believe that it actually has happened.”
