Hailey Bieber once accidentally burned her face after trying out one of her mother’s beauty products.
The model is a self-proclaimed skincare product junkie and often shares details of her favourite formulas on social media.
But in a video interview for Harper’s Bazaar, Hailey confessed that she wasn’t always an expert on cosmetics, and when she was growing up, inadvertently even used a cream intended for much more mature skin types.
“I always remember rummaging through my mom’s beauty stuff. This one time, when I was a kid, she had a really, really strong retinol/retinoid cream. I didn’t know that’s what it was. I had taken it and lathered it on my face,” she sighed. “And I’m a kid with baby soft, fresh skin. I burned and peeled so badly all over my face for days because I was using super, super strong retinol. I learned my lesson with that – it was miserable!”
Hailey went on to insist that she always removes every last scrap of make-up before she goes to bed and credited her strict evening regime for her flawless complexion.
“With skincare, I think my approach has changed there where I am really focused on my skin barrier,” the 24-year-old explained. “I always joke about this and say I want to look like a glazed doughnut before I go to bed. If I don’t look like a glazed doughnut, I don’t want it!”
And while Hailey, who serves as a brand ambassador for skincare company bareMinerals, looks to Kate Moss and Rihanna for beauty inspiration, she credits her mother Kennya Baldwin for teaching her all about the importance of moisturiser for healthy skin.
“I’ve learned a lot of beauty things from my mom. I think the biggest thing is that when I was young, she never, ever let me get out of the shower or bath without drenching my whole body in lotion. She wouldn’t let it slide,” she smiled.
