The no make-up look isn’t going anywhere fast, so here’s the lowdown on everything you need to maximise your natural beauty.
Many of us embraced the chance to pare back our beauty routine during the Covid-19 lockdown and it seems minimal make-up is here to stay for a least another season.
“It’s all about lightweight base make-up and next to nothing skin, which is always great for warm weather and mask-wearing,” Sir John, L’Oréal Paris U.S. makeup artist and creative director, recently told ELLE.
Here’s our guide to perfecting the no-make-up-make-up look:
Skin
Think light and sheer when it comes to skin this season. Choose a lightweight coverage formula, such as the Fenty Beauty Eaze Drop Blurring Skin Tint. We love this because it comes in 25 shades and offers a hit of hydration while also hiding any flaws. Plus, it’s sweat and humidity resistant so still works when the temperatures rise.
This trend needs your complexion to look great, so remember to maintain a consistent daily skincare regime. Cleanse and tone twice a day followed by serum, oil and moisturiser; applying an overnight face mask twice a week will also make all the difference.
If your skin does have a few blemishes, go for a concealer that is easy to blend like Glossier’s Stretch Concealer. For dark circles under eyes, opt for a brighter, warmer shade than your foundation and for spots or red areas choose a shade two tones lighter.
If you’re lucky enough to boast flawless skin, a slick of the Honest Beauty Magic Beauty Balm Stick may be all you need on the cheek and brow bones as it works as a highlighter and moisturiser.
Finish with a subtle sweep of bronzer on the cheekbones, neck, and collarbone for that timeless beach glow.
Carly Utting, national artist for M·A·C Cosmetics, has shared her top tip for blusher success.
“Apply your blusher with the softest blusher brush you own,” she told Cover Media. “Smile and pinpoint the highest point of your cheek ‘apple’, then using your brush, lightly polish your chosen Glow Play balm in soft circle motions. This creates the most natural but radiant effect.”
For a healthy flush, consider a cream blush like Barry M’s Fresh Face Cheek and Lip Tints which boast vitamin C and hyaluronic acid and come in five fresh shades. You can dab a bit on cheeks and lips for a sweet spot of colour too.
Eyes
Summer 2021 is all about looking effortlessly beautiful and enhancing your best features.
For a natural yet hardworking mascara, you can’t go wrong with Kevyn Aucoin’s The Curling Mascara, which separates each lash with a special tubing formula to create a thick and curled finish without clumping or flakes.
Keep eyeshadow palettes neutral, think peach, a hint of bronze for that sunkissed look, or a shadow a couple of shades darker than your natural skin tone.
If you aren’t a mascara fan, subtle falsies are a great way to make your eyes the focal point while still looking natural.
Lips
Again, less is more for this trend. A slick of a clear gloss or lip balm should be enough – try applying a balm containing vitamin E or moisturising oils such a jojoba to stop lips drying out when the temperatures rise.
