It’s officially Taylor Swift’s year

Taylor Swift

Perhaps 2014 is the year of Taylor Swift. Not 1989, as her album title suggests.

Taylor Swift hit a major milestone with her 1989 album Wednesday, selling 1.287 million copies in it’s first week according to Nielsen SoundScan. This is especially exciting, given the fact that the industry predictions were that the artist would sell 750,000 in the first week.

The record for most sales by a female artist in the first week is still held by Britney Spears, who sold 1.3 million with her “Oops I Did It Again” album.

Tay Tay got reeeeeal close.

And even more exciting, she is swiftly (see what I did there?) on her way to becoming the largest selling album of 2014. She has a few weeks to beat “Frozen,” which is the largest selling album of 2014 currently with 3.2 million copies. 1989 is currently at number 2.

Listen, I can’t stop loving this album. If you haven’t downloaded it or if you aren’t listening to it constantly, do it now. It has so many hooks it should be called Tackle Box.
