Nightcrawler has debuted at the top of the US box office.
Jake Gyllenhaal stars in the Dan Gilroy-directed thriller, about a crime reporter who becomes the story. The film raked in more than $10.9 million at the weekend, according to early estimates.
Ouija came a close second, falling from the top spot with $10.9 million.
The horror flick, directed by Stiles White, stars Olivia Cooke, Ana Coto, Daren Kagasoff and Bianca A. Santos in the story of a group of friends who awaken something evil in an ancient spirit board.
Fury held on at three with $9.1 million.
The war film, starring Brad Pitt and Shia LaBeouf and directed by David Ayer, follows Brad’s character, Don ‘Wardaddy’ Collier, a hardened army sergeant pushing the Allied forces into Nazi Germany.
Gone Girl was steady at four $8.8 million.
Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike star in the David Fincher adaptation based on Gillian Flynn’s best-selling novel, about a man accused of murder when his wife disappears, leading the couple to uncover dark secrets about one another.
The Book of Life rounded out the top five once again $8.3 million.
Jorge R. Gutierrez directed the animated adventure, featuring the voices of Zoe Saldana, Diego Luna, Channing Tatum, Ron Perlman, Christina Applegate and Ice Cube as they tell the story of a young man fighting to follow his dreams.
