Jennifer Lawrence tops Forbes highest-paid list

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence has topped the 2015 List of Highest-Paid Actresses.

The Hunger Games star is a cinema regular, and has barely been off the big screen since her 2010 break out role in Winter’s Bone.

Thanks to her star power, the actress has become one of the most in-demand names in Hollywood. This has helped her bank $52 million pre tax over the past 12 months.

Despite her wealth, Jennifer has joked she still gets told off for spending too much on clothes.

“That doesn’t feel like anything really,” she told Empire magazine of her second place scoring on Forbes’ 2013 and 2014 list.

“You can’t compute those kinds of numbers. My dad sent me a text message two days ago yelling at me for spending $600 on a shirt. So in a weird way, nothing’s changed.”

The eye-watering figure is over $16 million more than the second spot, taken this year by Scarlett Johansson.

Scarlett gave birth to her first child, daughter Rose, in September 2014, but that didn’t hinder her earning potential and she banked $35.5 million in the last year.

In third place is funny woman Melissa McCarthy with $23 million, which marks the only other American leading lady to take home over $20 million. Films like Tammy may not have been well received, but that hasn’t stopped Melissa raking in the big bucks.

Chinese star Fan Bingbing came in fourth, and Jennifer Aniston took fifth place. Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon, Anne Hathaway and Kristen Stewart round out the top ten. Last year’s winner Sandra Bullock slipped down to number 15 this time around.

Despite the impressive figures Hollywood’s most revered actresses earn, it pales into insignificance compared to their male counterparts.

Robert Downey Jr. reigns supreme at the top of the pile with a fortune of $80 million in the last year, while Jackie Chan took home $50 million. Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Adam Sandler and Tom Cruise all scored salaries of $40 million plus.
