The 22-year-old model attended the fashion world’s biggest night on Monday (07May18), an annual fundraising event held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, which brings together the biggest names in fashion, music and film each year.
Dressed in a white jumpsuit by Virgil Abloh’s brand Off-White, Kendall posed as photographers snapped away.
However, in a video obtained by British newspaper The Mirror, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star was seen using her hand to stop an assistant from encroaching on her space, as he appeared to move into the snappers’ line of sight.
The man, one of the event’s assistants, who was dressed in a dark suit with a walkie-talkie in his back pocket, backed towards the star, and she put a firm hand on his shoulder to prevent him from going any further.
The pair didn’t appear to exchange any words, but the message was understood as the embarrassed assistant moved out of the way.
According to the publication, a few fashion fans watching the live stream spotted the incident and took to Twitter to criticise the star.
“Who does kendall think she is? Did y’all see her push that security guy out of the way!??” said one fashion fan, while another raged, “Kendall Jenner shows up to the #MetGala in the most bland toilet paper outfit and had the nerve to push one of the handlers out of the way who was just doing his job on the carpet #rude.”
The theme of this year’s event was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, and the reality star, whose mother Kris Jenner, sister Kylie, and half-sister Kim Kardashian also attended the event, came in for some criticism for her plain outfit.
“Kendall Jenner is really the blandest person i’ve ever known, this year’s theme is all about opulence and decadence and she rolls up in a white jumpsuit???? i’m telling yall she’s the human version of the colour beige,” one user wrote.
