Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian deliberately leaked her now infamous sex tape, a new book alleges.
According to a report from Page Six, in his new tell-all titled Kardashian Dynasty, Canadian journalist Ian Halperin claims that Kim had signed a contract with Vivid Entertainment to leak the R-rated video she made with singer Ray J in 2003.
The author includes a quote from a source in the “adult film industry” who said a mutual friend of both hotel heiress Paris Hilton and Kim’s had encouraged the brunette beauty to shoot the intimate footage.
“A mutual friend of Kim and Paris had advised her that if she wanted to achieve fame, a sex tape would be the way to go… Kim had discussed the idea of producing a tape with her family beforehand,” the source is reported to have said.
The now 35-year-old reality star was not the only one who allegedly had a hand in the release of the video as Ian also claims that Kim’s 65-year-old “momager” Kris Jenner also had some responsibility.
A former friend of Kim’s had told Ian: “It was Kris who engineered the deal behind the scenes and was responsible for the tape seeing the light of day,” although the author added this had been long rumored in the showbiz world.
Ian, best known for his 2009 book, Unmasked: The Final Years Of Michael Jackson, claims a Vivid spokesperson also alleged that when it comes to a sex tape, the company requires that “both parties need to sign off.”
According to Page Six, while looking to clarify what exactly is needed in order to for a video of that nature to be released, the author also posed as someone looking to sell another celebrity sex tape.
Ray J, now 35, and Kim dated for five years before splitting in 2007.
Kim, who is now married to rapper Kanye West, threatened to sue Vivid and was paid a reported $5 million (£3.5 million) settlement, but the tape was still released.
A representative for Kim denied the accusations in the book, saying, “All the assertions are false.”
Kardashian Dynasty: The Controversial Rise Of America’s Royal Family is set for release on 19 April (16).
