Kris Jenner feels as though her ex-husband Bruce has “died”.
Last month the 65-year-old former Olympian revealed he is transitioning into a woman, and the beginning of his journey has been documented in a two part special of TV show Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
While his family, including daughters Kendall and Kylie, are all on board with his decision now and have shared how proud they are of him, it was initially difficult for them to get their heads around what is happening.
Especially for Kris, who he had been married to for over 20 years when they split in 2013.
“I just miss Bruce. And that’s going to take me a minute to mourn that relationship. You think you’re going to grow old with somebody, and they drastically change over the course of just a few years,” Kris sobbed during the second episode of the special, which aired last night.
“All I have really is my memories. I look at pictures of you and the kids, and I’m really sad because I feel like you died. You know, Bruce died. And it’s really hard for me to wrap my head around.”
Bruce, who was also overcome with emotion when pouring his heart out to Kris, tried to re-assure his ex-wife by telling her their memories together are a “part of him” and that he’ll never let them go.
He also told her he still loves her, and asked how he could make it better for her.
Responding to his offer, Kris simply told Bruce she hopes he lives the “happiest life” he can and that he finds peace in himself.
Kylie and Kourtney Kardashian decided to offer Bruce some nicknames during the episode too. Kylie suggested ‘Mad’, with her 36-year-old half-sister jumping on board.
“Yeah, mad,” Kourtney agreed. “Mom and dad, and you’re a little bit crazy.”
Bruce also touched upon the logistics of his gender change, when Kim Kardashian asked him about further surgery. It’s thought he’s already had breast implants, but he’s yet to make any alterations in other areas.
“So, like you don’t have a surgery to remove that and then that means you’re the woman,” Kim asked.
“Remove the little thing down there? You can do an awful lot before that,” Bruce replied. “As of right now, no.”
