Louis Tomlinson reunited with his One Direction bandmates on Saturday as he celebrated an emotional performance on Britain’s The X Factor.
The singer debuted his first solo track, the Steve Aoki collaboration Just Hold On, on the TV talent show just three days after losing his mother Johannah Deakin to cancer.
Louis reportedly pressed on with the scheduled gig as per his mother’s request, and he received a standing ovation from the studio audience and show judges Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne, Nicole Scherzinger, and Louis Walsh as he completed the tune.
The 24-year-old’s family was on set to support Louis through the tough performance, and it has since emerged his bandmate Harry Styles was also backstage to cheer him on.
Louis later headed to London hotspot Cirque Le Soir with his sister Lottie to mark the occasion, during which he also reconnected with fellow One Direction stars Liam Payne and Niall Horan, who were photographed arriving at the club.
Louis, whose band has been on hiatus this year, has yet to directly comment on his mother’s passing, but he took to Twitter earlier on Saturday to thank fans for their ongoing love.
“All the support has been incredible!” he wrote. “Let’s do this together tonight.”
Deakin, 43, died in the early hours of Wednesday morning following a battle with a “very aggressive” form of leukemia. Her passing was only announced on Friday, prompting an outpouring of condolences from Louis’ famous friends.
Liam and Niall were among those who offered up touching tributes on social media, while even former One Direction star Zayn Malik reached out to Louis online.
“Louis, I’m so sorry for you my brother my heart aches for you (sic),” he wrote. “just know I love you the same from a million miles away as i do right next to you. I’m always here for you through everything as you have been for me.
“My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this incredibly sad time I can’t begin to imagine what you are all going through (sic). Rip Johanna (sic) you are forever in my thoughts”.0
