Did you get a chance to see last night’s reboot of the iconic 90s TV sitcom “Roseanne”?
What did you think?
I loved it. I laughed, I cried. I can’t wait for more episodes. But that wasn’t a foregone conclusion. I loved the original series, yes, mainly because it was so unique for its time. It showed one working class family the way they were. Unlike, that is, every other sitcom up to that point that showed you an ideal of a family that few could truly relate to. Still, bringing back television magic twenty years after the fact was a huge gamble.
And, friends, that gamble paid off.
The magic that made the original series a success was on display during last night’s first two episodes. Once again we were confronted with the Connors as they are. Perfectly imperfect and unafraid to laugh at their imperfections.
My only concern is whether the country is willing to stare a part of itself in the mirror. And laugh about it.
Early indications are good. Last night’s episodes garnered a huge audience.
I’ll be tuning in for the season and look forward to laughing and tearing up with the Connors all over again.
