Lucy Hale celebrated one year of sobriety in an “alternative” Valentine’s Day post on Tuesday.
The Pretty Little Liars star marked Valentine’s Day with a “self-love” post in which she revealed she has privately been sober since 2 January 2022.
“Bear with me, this is an alternative Valentine’s Day post. This is a post about self-love and about the greatest thing I’ve ever done. On January 2, 2023 I celebrated one year of sobriety,” she wrote beside a photo of a cake commemorating her milestone.
She continued, “While this journey has mostly been private, I felt compelled tonight to let anyone who is struggling know that you are not alone and you are loved.”
Lucy received supportive messages in the comments from her former Pretty Little Liars co-stars including Shay Mitchell, Sasha Pieterse, Janel Parrish, Tyler Blackburn, and Troian Bellisario.
“Congratulations to you Lucy. This is brave. And cool. And inspirational. And you deserve all the self-love and love from others that goes with it,” Troian wrote alongside a clapping emoji.
Meanwhile, Demi Lovato, who has been open about her journey to sobriety, hinted that she has been involved with Lucy’s too.
“I’m so proud of you sis… I love you so much (heart emojis) Thank you for being a part of my journey and allowing me to be a part of yours (praying hands),” she commented.
Lucy also received messages from Selma Blair, Ashley Greene, Lily Collins, Lili Reinhart, Freida Pinto and Rachel Bilson.
The actress previously told Byrdie in 2017 that she planned to give up alcohol and partying after PLL came to an end later that year.
“PLL was a great chapter of my life, but it’s very exciting to start over,” she shared. “Becoming a part of this popular show… everyone just says yes to you, so you get away with a lot, and then you make mistakes.”
The 33-year-old added, “I’m just always trying to surround myself with better people and be the best version of myself possible.”
