Meghan Markle talks instinct to ‘protect the young’ during nature film promo

Meghan Markle hopes people will become more mindful of their actions after watching her Disney+ documentary, “Elephant.”

The former Suits actress, who officially stepped down as a senior member of Britain’s royal family last month and has since relocated to Los Angeles with her husband Prince Harry, appeared in a pre-taped promotional clip for the project on Good Morning America on Monday.

“I hope that when people see this film, they realise how connected we all are, and if we have more of an awareness about the obstacles they are facing,” she explained in the clip, filmed last summer. “I think we’d take care of each other and this planet and animals in a very different way.

“I’m really grateful to have the opportunity to be part of bringing the story of elephants to life. I have been very lucky to be able to have hands-on experience with elephants in their natural habitat.

“When you spend time connecting with them and the other wildlife you really understand we have to role to play in their preservation and their safety.”

Meghan, who shares 11-month-old son Archie with Harry, went on to gush over the “majestic” animals, describing them as “so sensitive and so connected”.

“You see in this film just how remarkable they are… their memories are amazing,” the 38-year-old added. “The connection of the herd, the protectiveness of their young… I think they are a lot more like us than they are different.”

Elephant is available to stream now on Disney+.
