Melissa McCarthy felt terrible for accidentally ignoring Barbra Streisand’s email.
The actress, who was up for Best Actress at the Oscars for her role in Can You Ever Forgive Me?, blamed her scrappy organization for not even realising that the music icon had contacted her.
Melissa’s co-star Richard E. Grant is a huge fan of Barbra, and the 48-year-old was left embarrassed when she realised that the Funny Girl star had emailed her to congratulate them both on the Oscar nominated drama.
“Richard is obsessed and loves her so much – always has. Aren’t we all. And then he said, ‘Has she seen the movie?’ And I said, I’m not going to call Barbra and ask her if she’s seen our own movie. Like, it’s just not the call I make,” she told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet at the Dolby Theater.
“And then she put out a Twitter comment saying, ‘I did email you. You just blew me off,'” Melissa laughed. “I don’t check my email! I haven’t checked it in years. I was like, ‘I’m the worst, I’m terrible.'”
“She was just laughing. But I did tell her, I really don’t check it. I should just not have one. She just said that she loved the movie and she was really nice about it,” she explained.
British actor Richard, 61, has been open in sharing his love for music and Hollywood icon Barbra, and revealed in a post on Twitter in January (19) that he had driven up to her property in Malibu just to take a selfie outside her front gates.
And the Withnail and I star, who is set to play an unnamed role in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX movie, was overwhelmed when he got a response from his idol, who said he was “terrific” in Can You Ever Forgive Me?
“Am completely crinkle faced & overcome with emotion,” he sweetly wrote alongside a snap of him crying.
