Well-known professional photographer, Robert Whitman has given myTalk 107.1 and Hubbard Broadcasting a peek at some never before seen photographs of the late artist, Prince.
Whitman was the first professional photographer to do a formal photo shoot with a young and up and coming Prince. The year was 1977, and Prince was just getting started when his management reached out to Robert Whitman to photograph him. One of the iconic photos of Prince here in the Twin Cities is the picture of Prince standing in front of the Schmitt music wall and this was taken during that very photo shoot.
Robert Whitman will be donating a large print of that very photo for an auction benefitting the Minneapolis College of Art and Design this evening, and will be featured in an interview following the Billboard Music Awards this Sunday on 5 Eyewitness News.
This video comes to us courtesy of Robert Whitman and filmmaker Oriel Pe’er and features many of the photographs from that first photo shoot.
