A double lung transplant might be the ‘ultimate goal’ for hospitalized Broadway actor Nick Cordero following his brutal battle with coronavirus.
The Rock of Ages star has remained in the intensive care unit in a Los Angeles hospital, where he was first admitted in March after exhibiting various COVID-19 symptoms.
Although the 41-year-old no longer has the virus, he continues to suffer from multiple ongoing health complications.
While in a medically-induced coma, Codero was fitted with a temporary pacemaker and endured the amputation of one of his legs. He has now reportedly woken up, but is ‘extremely weak’.
Cordero’s wife, fitness instructor Amanda Kloots, has updated fans throughout his ordeal and said she hopes Cordero will soon break ‘the vicious circle or the ICU dance’.
“You just feel like you’re in this momentum of going around, around, around like a hamster wheel,” Kloots told CBS This Morning co-host, Gayle King. “And I just want to get us out of the hamster wheel.”
Kloots revealed doctors aim to have Cordero eventually undergo a double lung transplant to boost his chances of a good recovery: “We think that that is most likely the possibility,” she shared. “A 99 per cent chance that he would be needing that (transplant) in order to live the kind of life that I know my husband would want to live.”
Kloots added the transplant is still some way off: “(But) that is a long road away and a lot of things would have to line up in order for Nick to be a candidate for that.”
