Olivia Wilde tweeted yesterday about the fact that she was riding the train standing up. This wouldn’t be a big deal, except she’s pregnant:
NBD, able-bodied riders who won’t give your seat to a GIANT preggo. I’ll just stand riiiiight next to your head and pray I go into labor.

You know what, I’m on #TeamOlivia, because I’ve been noticing this lack of common politeness in our culture for quite a while now, and it’s troubling.
The first time I noticed it, my mom and I had taken my very elderly grandmother who was in the beginning stages of Alzheimers out for a spa day. We went to a high end spa with a very crowded waiting room. And I watched as young people sat with their heads in their phones, oblivious to the people around them and didn’t notice that all the seats were full and an elderly woman was being literally supported by her daughter and granddaughter because people wouldn’t volunteer their seats.
I’ve watched moms try to wrestle doors at malls with a double stroller and another child in tow, I’ve watched single guys zip into the family and pregnant mom parking spots at stores, I’ve just noticed more and more that people aren’t paying attention to being kind and helpful to the people around them.
GUYS! Let’s get our heads out of our phones and pay attention. Make eye contact, be empathetic, take time to notice the people around us and their struggles, and then be helpful!
End of rant.0
