Priyanka Chopra was left feeling “devastated and hopeless” following a botched nose job.
Indian actress Priyanka reflected on the traumatic time in her new memoir Unfinished, and revealed she was prompted to have surgery in 2001 after doctors found a polyp in her nasal cavity.
The 38-year-old said she was suffering from breathing problems and headaches, and underwent a polypectomy, which she recalled just “sounded like a pretty routine procedure”.
However, the surgery went wrong, and the former Miss World was left disfigured.
“While shaving off the polyp, the doctor also accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose and the bridge collapsed. When it was time to remove the bandages and the condition of my nose was revealed, Mom and I were horrified. My original nose was gone. My face looked completely different. I wasn’t me anymore,” the Baywatch star wrote.
Left “devastated and hopeless” after the op, Chopra said her self-esteem took a huge blow, and she couldn’t even look in the mirror.
The actress has since had multiple corrective surgeries to try and fix the damage to her nose, and after 10 years, Chopra is finally comfortable seeing her reflection.
“While it took a few years of seeing a stranger gazing back at me every time I looked in the mirror, I’ve gotten accustomed to this face. Now when I look in the mirror, I am no longer surprised; I’ve made peace with this slightly different me,” she shared. “This is my face. This is my body. I might be flawed, but I am me.”
