Rachel McAdams has been confirmed for the second season of True Detective.
The About Time actress has been linked to the HBO series for weeks and on Monday the network finally established her involvement. The 36-year-old will play Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves.
Also confirmed alongside the A Most Wanted Man star is Black Box alum Kelly Reilly and Friday Night Lights’ Taylor Kitsch in supporting roles. Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn have already been announced as the male leads, following in the footsteps of season one stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConnaughey.
The Irishman will play Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him. Meanwhile Vince is Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner.
Rachel has spoken in the past about how much her career means to her, and will no doubt relish the challenge of continuing the success of the first series.
“I’m pretty ambitious, although I don’t define my life in terms of how famous I am or how my films do at the box office,” she revealed to British magazine Hello! “You have to be careful to not get caught up in that because this is a profession where you often go through highs and lows and it’s hard to always find one great project after another.”0
