Model-turned-actress Rebecca Romijn is backtracking on remarks she made about Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, insisting the young catwalk stars are “amazing and beautiful.”
The former X-Men star was asked for her thoughts on “the new generation of models, such as Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid” in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, and she appeared to make it clear she was not a fan.
Romijn was quoted as suggesting the new crop of models are more famous for “their social media presence” than they are for their fashion credentials, adding, “No one has proven yet that numbers of followers translates to revenue. It is frustrating.
“I know a lot of people – legitimate fashion people – can’t stand it, hate it that these social media stars are now the supermodels in fashion. They are not true supermodels.”
But on Wednesday, Rebecca hit Twitter to insist she wasn’t attacking Kendall and Gigi directly.
She wrote: “hey @kendalljenner @gigihadid don’t believe the #clickbait. Never talked smack about you. Both amazing & beautiful.”
The 43-year-old was all the rage during the height of her modeling career in the 1990s, having appeared in countless magazines in addition to landing the coveted Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover twice.
And now that her career has expanded into the Hollywood film industry, she is coming across strange patterns in projects she takes on that relate to her full-time modeling days.
Speaking about being covered in body paint from head to toe for her character Mystique in recent X-Men movies, the stunning star previously told ET Online: “I was an eager canvas. I said, ‘I want to get painted again!’ It only took five hours. It used to take forever. The first time I was ever painted for Sports Illustrated took 12 hours. The first time they did my makeup test for X-Men was 12 hours.”
Meanwhile, Romijn has her hands full these days filming movies and caring for her two children with actor Jerry O’Connell.0
