Rihanna and LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton have mutually agreed to temporarily shut down her Fenty maison label, less than two years after launch.

The French luxury goods conglomerate teamed up with the Umbrella hitmaker back in 2019, in a partnership which made her the first woman of colour to lead a house under the LVMH brand.

However, due to difficult conditions amid the ongoing Covid-19 health crisis, the ready-to-wear label will now be put on hold.

“Rihanna and LVMH have jointly made the decision to put on hold the ready-to-wear activity, based in Europe, pending better conditions,” LVMH confirmed in a statement to WWD.

Work will continue on the long-term development of Rihanna’s hugely successful Savage X Fenty lingerie brand, and her cosmetic and skincare lines, Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin.

“LVMH and Rihanna reaffirm their ambition to concentrate on the growth and the long-term development of the Fenty ecosystem focusing on cosmetics, skin care and lingerie,” the statement added.

According to editors at WWD, a small team of staff is currently still working at the Paris headquarters of Rihanna’s maison to wind down operations.

The brand stopped posting on its Instagram account at the beginning of the year, and the last Fenty collection drop was a collaboration shoe designer Amina Muaddi in November 2020.

It is understood the e-commerce site will go dark in the next few weeks.

The Work hitmaker has yet to comment on the news, however editors at Dazed report the 32-year-old singer is understandably “sad” about the closure.
