Controversial U.S. swimmer Ryan Lochte was almost attacked on live television on Monday night’s premiere of “Dancing with the Stars” on ABC.

Lochte was the center of scandal this summer when he exaggerated the truth about being robbed at gunpoint at a gas station in Brazil.

The televised moment happened when judge Carrie Ann Inaba was attempting to give Cheryl Burke and Lochte feedback on their first performance of the season:

Upon returning from commercial break, Bergeron thanked the show’s security, briefly described the situation and asked Lochte how he felt.

“So many feelings are going through my head right now,” Lochte said. “A little hurt, but you know, I came out here. I wanted to do something I’m completely not comfortable with, and I did, and I came out here with a big smile and I have the best dance partner.”

The perpetrators, two men, were handcuffed shortly after the incident:
