Selena Gomez to make performance comeback at American Music Awards

Selena Gomez will return to the stage at next month’s (Nov17) American Music Awards to perform for the first time since undergoing a kidney transplant.

The Come and Get It hitmaker, who was diagnosed with autoimmune disease lupus in 2015, went public with her latest health struggle last month (Sep17), revealing she had not been able to promote recent singles like Bad Liar and Fetish over the summer (17) as she had been recovering from surgery.

However, Selena is now ready to step firmly back into the spotlight and will sing her new track Wolves, a collaboration with DJ Marshmello, at the Los Angeles prizegiving on 19 November (17), reports

“Can’t wait,” the 25-year-old remarked on Twitter after the announcement was made on Thursday (26Oct17). Her tweet was accompanied by an emoji of a wolf.

The news emerges just a day after Wolves premiered online, and to celebrate its release, the pop star sat down for an interview with Apple Music presenter Zane Lowe, which aired on Wednesday (25Oct17). During the chat she admitted she had amassed two albums’ worth of new material from all of her recent studio sessions, and she is waiting for the right time to share it with her fans.

“I’m ready. I want to get back in and re-focus on all of my music,” Selena said of her plans to release a follow-up to 2015’s Revival. “To be honest, I feel like I have two albums already completed, but I’m wanting to figure it out. So it’s a lot sooner than I think people anticipate. I want to call the shots, I want it to be good, I want to be ready, I don’t want to do anything that’s forced. It will be soon.”

Meanwhile, Diana Ross has also been announced as a fellow performer for the 2017 AMAs, where she will be honored with a lifetime achievement prize.

Bruno Mars leads all nominees heading into the ceremony with eight nods, while Selena will be able to support her boyfriend The Weeknd, who is up for five awards, tying with his pal Drake, Ed Sheeran, Kendrick Lamar, and The Chainsmokers.
