Selena Gomez announced Tuesday that she is taking a break from her tour to manage some mental health issues that have been plaguing her.
Selena Gomez was diagnosed with Lupus last year, and took time off from her tour to deal with that privately, and now is suffering from some depression and anxiety issues that she says are a side effect of her Lupus.
The statement she released to CNN reads: “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of Lupus, which can present their own challenges. I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off.”
At present, her website and social media platforms are not reflective of this announcement, however, her most recent tweet on August 13 serves as a reminder that Selena is also struggling with grief following the murder of her friend Christina Grimmie.
I love you, Christina. https://t.co/p2vUWvjbh0

Meanwhile, it is not known whether or not Selena will reschedule performances she has booked on her tour. She is scheduled to kick off a Canadian leg in September, and has dates scheduled in Europe and South America later in the year.
The stigma of mental health issues is alive and well in our culture, and I applaud Selena Gomez for being up front and honest about her struggles and making a public choice to take care of herself. Anxiety and depression can be crippling, and I am hopeful that she gets the help she needs, and that she will continue to speak out about the importance of taking care of oneself and asking for help when you are struggling.0
