After one season on “Saturday Night Live” as a featured player from 1993-1994, Sarah Silverman made her return to the show this past weekend as host.
Reviews for the broadcast are hot and cold, with many up in arms over her portrayal of Joan Rivers arriving in heaven.
As far as I’m concerned, Silverman and Rivers were close. Silverman was broken over her death, and it wouldn’t have felt right for her to do the show without paying tribute to her late idol. Did the sketch nail it? No, but Rivers would have loved it anyway.
Silverman was at her best, no surprise, during her monologue, stand-up being her profession and bread and butter.
People also loved her spoof for a trailer for the sequel to “The Fault In Our Stars,” entitled, “The Fault In Our Stars 2: The Ebola In Our Everything.”
Check out Silverman as Joan Rivers, in her monologue and in the trailer spoof below.
