E! are said to be considering cancelling Fashion Police.
Host Kathy Griffin announced on Thursday night that she was quitting the show following the controversy surrounding co-presenter Giuliana Rancic’s comments about Zendaya’s dreadlocks at the Oscars.
And now network bosses are reportedly thinking about axing the show for good.
“Don’t be surprised if they cancel the show quietly in a matter of weeks, when the craziness dies down a little,” a source told the New York Daily News.
Kathy’s departure came after Kelly Osbourne intiated the mass exodus when she tweeted that she would not be continuing on the programme.
Now Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski are the only presenters left on the programme, with Melissa Rivers executive producing.
And the celebrity support for Kathy has also left bosses pondering the future of Fashion Police, after apparently realising the support is firmly on Kathy’s side.
“Lena Dunham, Rosie O’Donnell and Jane Lynch all tweeted supporting Kathy,” the source said. “That’s not good. E! can’t survive without celebrity cooperation.”
Following Kathy’s announcement that she was leaving the show, an email she sent to her celebrity friends was made public by BuzzFeed.
In the email, Kathy asks her famous pals to voice their support for her decision if they felt able to.
“Here’s why I need you…” Kathy wrote. “I went live with the following statement on my social media platforms this evening. I’m reaching out to you because I think you will understand why I have made this decision and I am asking for your support via Twitter, etc. IF you are comfortable. I admire you & your work and hope that you can stand by me. Once again, IF you are comfortable. Oh, and I am nervous and scared about this…in case you’re wondering ”
However, somebody who isn’t too happy with the way the situation has unfolded is Kelly’s brother Jack Osbourne.
The television star said he was angry that Kathy’s exit had been treated so differently from his sibling’s.
“So Kelly quits and she’s overreacting, Kathy quits and she’s a hero? I find this frustrating,” he tweeted.
