If I were Andy Cohen, I would be giving my Mazel of the Day to “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” Tina Fey’s newest show on Netflix.
I have actually been talking about this show to everyone and anyone who will listen to me for the past couple weeks. I just can’t get it off my mind.
It is off-beat, in a way that took me awhile to get into, but I have finally succumbed to its hilarity in a way I haven’t been taken by too many shows before.
The show stars Ellie Kemper (The Office, Bridesmaids) as a “mole woman,” having spent the past 15 years in a bunker in Indiana with three other women and a crazy preacher who has told them the rest of the world was destroyed in the apocalypse. Now rescued, Kimmy has moved to New York City to make a life for herself.
It is a strange premise, but if you can buy into it, the antics that ensue as a result of Kimmy’s time-warp create some incredible opportunities for comedy.
Take the moment that I fell in love with the show: When Kimmy’s new roommate and friend Titus, a struggling actor and singer, decides he must shoot a music video for his song “Peeno Noir” at the site of Kimmy’s new job, a well to-do household where she serves as nanny.
And if that was the moment I fell in love, the moment when Titus prepares for an interview hoping it will go viral and he’ll become famous — is when I would have proposed marriage.
This is simply the funniest thing I have seen on a show in a long time:
I showed the clip above to Bradley Traynor this morning with but a brief synopsis of the show, and he thought it was hilarious and is now planning on binging the entire show (a mere 14 episodes, 25 mins each, on Netflix).
Titus is, arguably, the best character on the show, and the reason to watch in the first place.
I hope you enjoyed the clips, and definitely check the show out for yourself. I need more people to talk to about it!!! 🙂
