Tiffany Haddish recycled her favorite Alexander McQueen gown for a third time at Sunday night’s (04Mar18) Oscars.
The U.S. comedian and actress wowed in white at cinema’s biggest night of the year, though she first stepped on to the red carpet in a traditional Eritrean gown to honor her background and her late father.
By the time she appeared on stage with Maya Rudolph to present the awards for Best Documentary Short Subject and Best Live Action Short Film, Tiffany had changed into her bejeweled McQueen, and showed off her comic skills by dangling her high heels on her fingers and wearing a pair of Ugg slippers.
Tiffany first wore the dress, which she paid for herself, at the Los Angeles premiere of Girls Trip in July, and then again during her opening monologue when she hosted Saturday Night Live (SNL) four months later, where she promised fans would see it again.
“I should be able to wear what I want, when I want, however many times I want, as long as I Febreze it,” she laughed on SNL. “My whole team told me, ‘Tiffany, you cannot wear that dress on SNL. You already wore it. It’s taboo to wear it twice.’ And I said, ‘I don’t give a dang about no taboo. I spent a lot of money on this dress. This dress cost way more than my mortgage.’
“This is a $4,000 dress! I’m gonna wear this dress multiple times. You might see this dress in two sketches tonight. If someone invites me to a ball or a bat mitzvah, guess what I’m wearing to it? This Alexander McQueen.”
However, in the days leading up to the Oscars, Tiffany admitted to People magazine that she hadn’t made a final decision on her dress yet.
“I’m still working on this Sunday Oscar dress problem,” she said. “It’s going to be something, I know that much.”
“You will see the white dress again, yes you will,” she added. “That dress will be making a comeback.”
