Tyra Banks is seeking to “redefine the definition of beauty” with her upcoming body positive TV show.
The supermodel, reality show host, and entrepreneur has signed on to executive produce and star in a documentary series called Beauty, which will premiere on Quibi, a new entertainment platform set to launch next year.
Tyra will front the programme, with her mission being to “break down barriers” and “challenge traditional notions” of beauty.
“As I look into the future, I see radical changes in both how people ‘attain beauty,’ and how the world perceives beauty,” she said in a statement. “Our docu-series aims to expand and redefine the definition of beauty as we know it, challenging why we accept certain beauty parameters and reject others, and examining the beliefs behind those judgments.”
The 45-year-old has long been a supporter of inclusivity and plus-size models over the course of her almost 30-year career and is keen to defy industry standards.
Back in May, she announced her decision to go by the name BanX during her latest Sports Illustrated cover story.
The new moniker, which she claimed was in tribute to the iconic model Iman, signifies her rebirth as a body positive star.
“Mononyms are exciting in the industry,” the America’s Next Top Model creator told the magazine. “But usually models use their first names, like Iman. I want to flip the script and go by my last name. I’m taking something familiar and making it new. I’m wiser now and thicker.”
