Walking Dead Stuntman Passes Away after Tragic Fall

Wednesday afternoon, John Bernecker was filming a scene near Atlanta, GA doing stunt-work for the Walking Dead.

John is a veteran stuntman, and had a tragic fall 25 feet above a concrete platform. He was barely conscious when they reached him, and witnesses say he was bleeding from the head and his nose.  Medics on the set immediately had John airlifted to the Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

John’s girlfriend kept fans and friends updated on his status, which was in critical condition.  He was not breathing on his own, and he was placed on a ventilator while they tried to reduce his brain swelling.  He did see some temporary improvement, but the swelling resumed Thursday afternoon.  Thursday evening, they decided to take him off the ventilator and he passed away.  John’s Girlfriend is also a stunt woman for the Walking Dead, and was on set at the time of the fall.  John was surrounded by his family and friends when they made the decision to let him pass away.

Mr. Berndecker had made several appearances in films and TV shows; most recently in Black Panther, The Fate of the Furious and Logan.  Here is his working stunt reel.
